Commuter & Resident Resources
Transit: BARTA, under the scope of the South Central Transit Authority (SCTA), operates a number of transit routes connecting Berks County, as shown on BARTA’s System Map.
Carpool: Want to save money and have a less stressful commute? Try carpooling and share driving duties or split the cost of gas and parking. Commuter Services helps commuters find carpool partners through a confidential ride matching database and provides advice on successful carpooling.
Park & Ride: The Commuter Services Park & Ride Map and BARTA Park & Ride Map will help you to find a safe and convenient place to leave your vehicle while you carpool, vanpool, or take transit to work. Park & Ride lots are located throughout Berks County, with several lots just outside of downtown Reading.
Inter-City Connectivity: Want to travel to the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, or New York City, but don’t want to drive? Bus service to these cities is provided by: Our Bus in partnership with Klein Transportation. Visit their websites for up-to-date information on bus schedules and fares.
Bike or Walk: The Penn Street Bridge sidewalks and Schuylkill River Trail (Thun Trail) Bridge will provide a congestion-free link between Reading and West Reading for bicyclists and pedestrians. Find other trails, locations of bike racks, and plan your route using resources at Greater Reading Trails, Commuter Services and BARTA.
Flexible Schedule: If your employer offers flexible scheduling, adjust your work hours to avoid the peak commute period. Go to work earlier or later and save time on your commute.
Work from home: If your employer offers the option to telecommute, avoid sitting in traffic and get more work done from home!
